Acidity regulators as the name suggest regulate the acidity of food to maintain an optimal level of pH which in turn helps enhance the life of the food product. Acetic acid, citric acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid and sodium salts of the acids are some of the commonly used acidity regulators in food. These regulators are sometimes listed in the label as E numbers like E260, E331(ii) etc. But the FSSAI list of food additives mentions the names without the E number too.

Acidity Regulator Uses

  • Used in nutrient absorption

It helps in the improvement of nutrient absorption. It enhances the bioavailability of different minerals which further helps the human body in absorbing them in a better way.

Acidity Regulator [INS330] also helps in preventing and treating the formation of kidney stones. In addition to this, Acidity Regulator 330, when used as potassium citrate, is of good help in breaking kidney stones that are already formed within the body.
